Bristol - pictures

Crew's Hole, the area where I now live, used to be a coal mine and tar pit and industrial area. Apparently you can still smell the tar in the summer, but over 100 years after it was last excavated I reckon you would be more likely to smell the rubbish dump on the same site (but not below my flat!).

There is a river/canal right outside my flat - the Avon. Then there is troopers hill, with its lone chimney betraying its industrial heritage.

Quite happy with the place so far.

Soup

soup
Have made a very successful soup, the first one I have made for ages. Much better than the cheap stir-fry, and luckily I have enough for another 3 portions.

Mmm

Student dinner

Kyle's 92p stir-fry:

Apparatus:

1/2 tin chopped tomatoes,
1/2 a tin each of veg of your choice (in my case carrots and peas)
1/2 tin tuna
egg noodles
pinch of mustard powder, to taste
Encona chilli sauce, to taste
Olive oil

Wooden spatula
Wok
Bowl, to serve
Fork, to eat

Method:

Cook noodles as per instuctions, in this case boiling for 4 mins (Sharwoods et al, 2005), drain well and set aside.

Heat a little oil in the wok, and add tuna and tomatoes, stir fry for a bit. Try adding a pinch of mustard powder and a splash of Encona for an added kick. Add the other veg and stir fry a bit more. Add the cooked noodles and stir fry even more, then pour out into a bowl and eat.

Conclusions:

A quick, tasty meal, quite good for you (must be, all that veg and fish, stands to reason), but be sure to eat the other half the next day as opened tins will not keep. Repeat as desired, but preferably no more than twice a week, as it is really rather a dull meal. Try alternating the veg for a bit of variety, or adding a bit of Marmite. Hard to go wrong with a bit of Marmite.

Alison & Martyn's wedding

Last weekend was Alison & Martyn's wedding. Alison is a friend from Surrey, and Martyn she met right here in Bristol.

Good day, a very nice service (even if I did not know the songs), with a great sermon from Martyn's father. Bride & Bridesmaid looked good, groom looked tall.

Bit of a boogie in the evening, nice to catch up with people too.

I was an usher for the day, and wore a snazzy suit. Although my job did not entail much it was nice to be involved.

I fully intended to take many more photos than I did, but somehow I have ended up with these eleven:

Hopefully what I lack in quantity I make up for in quality!

Bristol

A month after I bought the place, I have just spent my first weekend
at my new flat, making many items of Ikea furniture in what was
possibly the hottest weekend in ages. I even bough an electric
drill / screwdriver so I am now a proper home owner.

Much nicer than my old flat, bigger, wood flooring all over the
place, lovely landscaped grounds and right on top of the river - I
spent a good time walking along the river to the local shopping centre.
